South West Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS)

Further to the Consultation period for the South West Regional Spatial Strategy which closed in October 2008, the Government Office of South West (GOSW) reported that they received approximately 800,000 representations on the document.

From approximately 30,000 respondents which took a considerable period of time to review. For this reason the final submission version of the RSS was delayed but was at that time expected to be completed for summer 2009 adoption.

In May 2009 the South East RSS was adopted and three actions of Judicial Review were made against it. This caused a delay in the publication of the South West RSS as it was agreed that additional Sustainability Appraisals were required on the proposed housing allocations.

As such GOSW has announced that the final submission version of the RSS is expected to be published later in 2009; however this time scale may slip back into early 2010 following the completion of the Sustainability Appraisal. However, with the General Election expected in Spring 2010 the adoption date may change.
